This shivering dog was discovered peeking out from a metal bin in Sutton Park on Friday in sub zero temperatures.

It is not known if the dog was lost and jumped inside the bin or was deliberately dumped.

The hound was fished out of the bin by the dog warden and taken to Birmingham Dogs Home where it was given a bed and is being cared for.

His owner has seven days to come forward or otherwise the centre will look to re-home.

Rachel Frost, from the home, said: “He was found in the bin in Sutton Park. It was freezing that night. It’s hard to say if he was dumped in the bin or took refuge.

“He was a bit scared and nervous. The wardens were called out, collected him and brought him straight to us.”

It seems the dog- who is not being named at this stage and described as a cross-breed- is quite taken with his temporary lodgings.

Ms Frost said: “He’s happy to be honest.

“He had a bit of a sore belly because he didn’t know what he had eaten in the bin.

“He’s OK, he’s been keeping warm, he’s got a nice warm bed.”

Last week, the centre reunited Zeus, an 18-week old Rottweiler puppy, after he was hit over the head with a machete during the violent home invasion in Catherine-De-Barnes.

The injured puppy left the house and it is thought fell into a nearby canal. He was found treading water by members from Great Britain Canoe Club, who were out practising.

The home was alerted and treated the injured dog. Zeus is now back home with his owners following a microchip reading and social media search.

Giles Webber, CEO at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “Zeus had a gash so deep his skull was visible, but the vets were brilliant and quickly sewed him up. The team then nursed him through the morning as we searched for his owners.

“Thankfully he was microchipped and they were quickly found and reunited with Zeus on their own way back from hospital. Whilst we are all appalled at the events, we’re delighted to say Zeus has survived the ordeal and is already back at home recovering with his family.”
