Puppy 'Doesn't Know Whether to Drink Milk or Sleep' in Adorable Video Viewed 11 Million Times

A super-sleepy puppy has become a social media sensation after a video showcasing his adorable indecisiveness was shared to TikTok.

Dogs, much like humans, need their sleep. In fact, our canine companions arguably need a little more shut-eye than the average owner.

Researchers at North Carolina State University found that most dogs have two "activity peaks" throughout the standard working day.

According to the study, these peaks run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by a midday lull, and then from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Though the 42 healthy dogs monitored as part of the research were found to be more active, the fact remains that our four-legged friends need good rest.

If any further proof of that fact was required, look no further than the video posted to TikTok by Kane Berries, which has garnered over 11 million views.

In the clip, a tiny pomapoo puppy can be seen desperately struggling to keep his eyes open while drinking from a bowl of milk. "He doesn't know whether to drink milk or sleep," a caption reads alongside the footage.

In the video, the sleepy dog can be seen with his right paw mistakenly dipped in the milk, resting his head on the rim of the bowl before stirring once more to take another slurp.

Even so, the dog shows no signs of being willing to give up the fight. Not when there is milk to enjoy. Looking up toward the camera, the tiny puppy is a perfect picture of cuddly cuteness; eyes half closed with milk slowly dribbling down his snout. "When you're both sleepy and hungry at the same time," an onscreen text explains.

The heartwarming nature of the footage was not lost on viewers, of course, with any number of TikTok users weighing in to write simply "aww" alongside the post. Chlodrei described the video as simply "too cute" with yhrsmeenn in agreement, writing: "Tell me this not the cutest thing you saw today."

Myahx29 declared: "I want one!" while eijileviprotector said: "I'm crying" in response to the clip. Also called pooranians, pompoos, and pomeroodles, pomapoos are a cross between the Pomeranian and Toy Poodle dog breeds.

The puppy featured in the clip is one of several being cared for by the owner of the Kane Berries TikTok account. Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment.

Since finding social media fame for his sleepy drinking exploits, the tiny puppy in the video has been affectionately christened Milky with several follow-up videos posted.

The American Kennel Club recommends that dogs enjoy milk in "small quantities."

"A few tablespoons of cow's milk or goat's milk on an occasional basis can be a nice reward for your dog without the side effects of overindulgence," Anna Burke writes. "But, you should probably hold off on offering your dog an entire bowl in one sitting, as it can cause unpleasant reactions, including diarrhea, vomiting, and loose stools."

High in fat and natural sugars, too much milk can also lead to problems like obesity and pancreatitis.

Back in January, another puppy went viral after footage of it reacting grumpily to its owner's affections was posted online. In December 2021, meanwhile, another tiny dog had the internet in stitches thanks to its intense facial expression.
